Symposia

A series of workshops, taking place in turn in each of the three regions, will serve as a forum for addressing the different issues according to the identified sub-topics. Each symposium will culminate in the production of a separate report. The conclusions and agreements reached will directly be fed into the roadmap and research agenda.

Rotating between the three regions, each symposium will serve as a forum for presenting and discussing progress on the sub-topic oriented issues but also general questions that need to be solved before the end of the project. Although the focus will be on energy efficiency and CO2 emissions, ECOSTAND will also – where appropriate – consider other types of environmental impact. Any gaps in the understanding will need to be identified and convergence achieved on the aspects to be included in future research agendas.

Initial topics of discussion are likely to include, for example, the different transport modes which should be included, the vehicle types (private car, commercial vehicles, public transport, etc), as well as the types of traffic and emission model which are relevant.

The first step will be to find common ground between the EU, Japan and US regarding the types of ITS application that should be covered by the methodology, and the assessment tools available in the three regions, then to reach an agreement on how to carry out the validation of these tools. Harmonisation must also be sought in the terminology used, since it is essential that there is no misunderstanding between the regions regarding the ITS applications in question.

The next steps will be to identify the various methodologies and assessment tools available in the three regions, and to reach a common agreement on how the validation of these tools can be carried out.

ECOSTAND will create a network of experts who can contribute to the symposia, taking into account the topics of interest in Europe. The collaboration starts with the symposia, however the work will also continue online. If you are interested in contributing to the discussion, please join us on Linked in or contact the project Coordinator.
